Towards Reconciliation: A Theological Understanding of the Relationship Between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Non-Indigenous Australians
by Dr Peter Lewis and Matt Bell (from the Indigenous Hospitality House Christian Community)
This one day workshop, to be held during NAIDOC week, will consider the theological underpinnings of the journey towards justice and reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous peoples in Australia. It explores how non-indigenous Australians belong on land acquired unjustly and how to enable people to effect change. What is the appropriate Christian response to the injustice faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples?
The workshop will explore aspects of reconciliation — past, present and future—and current government policies such as the Northern Territory Intervention, constitutional recognition of the First Peoples and treaty/ies from a theological perspective.
