Hundreds of children will spend tonight locked away in an Australian Immigration detention centre!
JOIN A UNIQUE ACTION in central MELBOURNE to stand against the detention of children.
From Thursday 20th – Sunday 23rd November the #freethechildren campaign will be holding an action to increase the public’s awareness about the plight of children in detention. symbolising a detention centre contains hundreds of dolls, with each doll representing a child who is currently locked away.
The installation will be situated on the lawns adjacent to St. Paul’s Cathedral, in Swanston Street, and will be open to the public from 9am to 5pm each day.
We need lots of enthusiastic volunteers to support this action by engaging with passers-by, assisting them to enter the cage and free a doll.
There will be cards and petitions available for people to sign and send to the Minister for Immigration, calling for all children to be released from detention.
A minimum of 3 volunteers will be supporting the action at all times, including one person who has a good knowledge of the issues. Come along to help out, and meet others who share your concern about what is happening to children in Australian detention centres.
We need YOU to make this ACTION work! Sign up to be a volunteer by emailing jill.ruzbacky@victas.uca.org.au or call Jill on 9251 5266.We are suggesting 3 hour shifts: 8.30- 11.30am; 11.30am-2.30pm and 2.30-5.30pm each day.
